IF YOU ARE IGNORANT OF THE BIBLE, STOP COMMENTING!
Whether Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s act of swearing on the Quran to substantiate his sodomy allegations is in accordance with Islam or not is not for me as a non-muslim to comment. That is the purview of the Islamic scholars.
However, I am peeved of when Pas President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Pas’s spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat claim that the act of placing the hand on the Quran while taking the oath to declare that one was telling the truth was imitating what the Christians did when they placed their hand on the Bible. That’s far from the truth and displays sheer ignorance.
Let me tell all ignorant what the Holy Bible says on swearing :-
THE OLD TESTAMENT.
LEVITICUS 19:12
“Do not make a promise in my name if you do not intend to keep it; that brings disgrace on my name. I am the Lord your God”.
THE NEW TESTAMENT
MATHEW 5:34-37
“But now I tell you; do not use any vow when you make a promise. Do not swear by heavens, for it is God’s throne, nor by earth, for it is the resting place for his feet; nor by Jerusalem for it is the city of the great King. Do not even swear by your head, because you cannot make single hair white or black. Just say yes or No-everything else comes from the Evil One”.
So, it is high time those ignorant of the Bible or the Christian teachings stop making comments or cast aspersions on the Holy Bible.

ReplyDeleteDon't you think that Nik Aziz was referring to what Christians generally practice as opposed to what is actually stated in the Bible?
well said norman
ReplyDeleteDear Mr Fernandez,
ReplyDeleteIf you observe carefully all witnesses in a court of law in almost all "christian dominated" countries e.g. USA, UK, Australia etc are required to swear on the Bible before giving their testimonies.
So what have been said regarding swearing being a Christian's practice is not totally wrong.
The quotes from the Bible which you have reproduced do not say that Christians cannot swear on the Bible.
If you think you are well versed in the Bible, can I seek your knowledge on a number of questions I have on the it.
Perhaps what are seen in courts on Western TV shows
ReplyDeleteAre simply taken and swallowed as gospel truths
Causing some to interpret and rain the wrong blows
When they should go straight to the Bible for the whole truth

Way to go brother ! With knowledge in head and if it is not shared with others, it will cause us to have 'big head' and that's what we have to avoid.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest that you take time to share on 'servanthood' as it was mentioned that for one to be great, we need to have the heart of a servant,i.e to serve rather than be served. For the greatest leadership ever shown and known to mankind was a servanthood heart by
the Lord Jesus Christ, as non can compare to the one who laid down His life for all.
Mr Fernandez, they were referring to the Western practise of swearing on the Bible in courts of law. Please don't take such an arrogant tone in this. They were protecting their own faith, not insulting yours.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with 'observer'. Swearing on the Bible is not an uncommon practice, and has I'm sure been seen on plenty of tv programs and so there is little reason why others should not feel as if they are adapting practices. While you may not feel that swearing on the Bible is a Christian or correct thing to do, other Christians and ostensibly Christian nations do. I feel your tone, fervor and criticisms are misplaced.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that insofar as the practices of others affect us, we have the right to make comments on those practices and to praise or decry them. The practice of Christianity in some countries affects non-Christians and the practice of Islam, being the majority and 'the religion of the federation' affects non-Muslims in Malaysia. Thus they have a stake in it (they are 'stakeholders', if you like) and thus have a right to comment on it. The idea that we 'keep to our own backyards' is dangerous in our setting. We have to stand up for each other's rights as united we will stand, divided we shall fall.
With sincerity,
Julian.

Observer, Actually, I feel Mr. Fernandez is not writing in an arrogant tone because we Christians were labelled 'karut'.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Mr. Fernandez, I just wish to let you know that I am quoting some of your posts in my faith blog. I have written a post in Bahasa Malaysia for the benefits of those who don't read English. I will base the verses from the online Indonesian Bible. I am reflecting on the AlKitab now which is in Bahasa Malaysia. How I wish we have our own online version in Bahasa Malaysia.
